Homoeopathy is a system of medicine which was developed in the 18th Century by a German physician and chemist, Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann found that many substances could produce symptoms when administered to a healthy person. He also found that illness could be cured by using small, especially prepared doses of a substance which was capable of causing symptoms similar to the illness.
For example, coffee stimulates the nervous system and the production of urine. A homoeopathic dose of coffee can cure a patient troubled with unusual mental activity and sleeplessness together with excess production of urine. Homeopathy is used worldwide in the treatment of chronic illness, acute conditions and minor accidents which require first aid. Homeopathy views all symptoms as an indication of an underlying state of ill health that affects the whole person, not just one or two body systems. Treatment acts as a catalyst, stimulating and directing the body’s own healing energy towards the resolution of states of imbalance, disorder or disease. To find the right remedy, the consultation may take an hour to an hour and a half. You will be asked questions relating to your physical symptoms and your past medical history. In addition you may be asked about your sleeping patterns, lifestyle, eating habits and about some of your mental and emotional characteristics. Homeopathic medicine is derived from plant, animal or mineral sources. They are prepared following strict homeopathic pharmaceutical guidelines. The remedy may contain little or none of the original substance but carries its energy and healing stimulating properties.
